Welcome to Intermediate
An intermediate chess player is someone who has moved beyond the basics and is starting to understand the deeper aspects of the game. At this stage, players have a solid grasp of how each piece moves, know the rules of chess, and can confidently execute basic strategies like developing their pieces and protecting their king.
Intermediate players begin to explore the strategic side of chess.
They start learning common openings, understanding the importance of pawn structure, and recognizing tactical motifs like forks, pins, and discovered attacks. At this level, players focus on improving their ability to plan several moves ahead, anticipate their opponent’s responses, and think strategically about their position on the board.
